You get this message, right? : "Please ensure both the install/ and contrib/ directories are deleted"

Go to your cPanel and remove these dirs. That should help.

the latest version of cPanel seems to be a little messed up. This is why I always recommend installing files yourself.

Best to remove all files if possible and install again.
I'm not sure what else could be wrong.

As I said the install problem is a cPanel problem. All you have to do is download the guestbook from here, extract it, fill in config.inc.php, pload to your site, run the install file.

thank you very much
this forum is the best place for answering to questions,thanks for your replies.

i downloaded and uploaded it to my site at:
www.malavan.net/gb
you mean i must changes these? to what ?

/* database settings */

$GB_DB["dbName"] = "guestbook";
$GB_DB["host"] = "localhost";
$GB_DB["user"] = "root";
$GB_DB["pass"] = "";

2.i cant understand what must to do about 2,3 ,must change what folder?:

1. Open the configuration file 'config.inc.php' with a text editor
and set up your database settings.

2. Create the tables for the guestbook:
mysql -u<user> -p<pass> <database> < guestbook.sql
Or use the script 'install.php' -> http://www.yourDomain.com/guestbook/install.php

3. Give write permissions to these directories:

- public - 777 (drwxrwxrwx) (directory)
- tmp - 777 (drwxrwxrwx) (directory)
