I added several new smilies/emoticons from among those that "shipped" with Advanced Guest Book, and I have confirmed that they are in the appropriate DB table, but they don't show up as options on the Sign the Guestbook page. Any idea what the problem might be?

in Advanced Guestbook the smilies you see on the form are hard coded in to the entry.php template file. You will only see the new ones if you click the link to see the rest of the smileys.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply, Carbonize.

The only link I see to click says, "Show Legend." When I do so, I get the following error message:

"Forbidden

"You don't have permission to access /guestbook/lang/codes-english.php on this server.

"Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

Am I clicking the wrong link?

I have enabled read/write/execute permissions for this file, all files in the folder, and the "lang" folder itself.

Thanks,
Scott

So you are saying that /guestbook/lang/codes-english.php is set to 755 or greater and does exist?

Yes. /guestbook/lang/codes-english.php is unequivocally on the server. I set the permissions to 777 directly on the server via WinSCP.

Should I refer this matter to my hosting provider? I mean, would they be likely to offer this type of support, I wonder? Of course, in the whole grand scheme of things, it's not critical in that it's not impacting the overall functionality of the guestbook. It would just be nice if I could get it to work, b/c I'd like some of the smilies/emoticons to be available to visitors.

Thanks again, Carbonize.

As I said you could simply edit templates/form.php to change the smileys that get displayed or add more.

I'm sorry, I guess I missed that suggestion. Sounds like the path of least resistance. I think I'll go that route.

Thanks again, Carbonize.
