If your server (e.g Apache) has
<AllowOverride All> turned on for your directory '/mnt/host-users/bns/'
you can use .htaccess to change the 'open_basedir'

if they don't
there's no way for uploading

hmmm ... be more speciffic ... how to check if i can use <Allow Override> directive and what to place in such case in .htaccess file ... and where to place .htaccess file ?

ok, just upload a file (.htaccess) to your guestbook dir
/mnt/host-users/bns/guestbook/

.htaccess

if you get an error 500
your server does not allow overiding

In this case the .htaccess file is being ignored by the server.
