I havnt accessed the admin for the guestbook for a month and when i entered what i thought was correct username etc i was denied access. I have tried varoius combinations of passwords i use, and none work obviosuly the test 123 dosnt work as that was changed when i installed it.

So any ideas how i can retrive my username and password or reset them?

I do hope that someone has worked out how to do this, as this appears to be a common problem without a solution, judging by number of other posts made.

Many thanks

ok i havnt a clue about php language, but i am sure it must be possible to write a line or two of code as a seperate program, or within the admin.php file or similar, which will obtain the password and ID value and print this on screen??

Or maybe it is possible to upload a fle to overwrite info and reset the password to id= TEST pw=123 ???

this cant be unsolvable there must be a way!

I just set this up my self and wanted to change the password from default and get the same thing you are receiving Andrew.

From what I understand, this is a common issue. Currently looking into it my self. When I find out a solution I'll let you know.

Well Andrew it looks like we're not the only ones with this problem. This is what I found by doing a search of the Forum.

Have not tried these yet myself. But I thought I would post anyways...

-------------------Option #1 -------------------------------------------------
Simply overtype the username i.e overtype the 'test' with whatever username you want to use. Same with the password.
Click submit and return to the guestbook.
Then you can check by returning to 'admin', enter your new name/pword and it should accept them.

-------------------Option #2 -------------------------------------------------
I get this problem too occasionally - I find that if I delete my cookies I can get in again.

-------------------Option #3 -------------------------------------------------
The password is stored in the mysql database.
table: book_auth

You can use phpmyadmin to overwrite your old password.

click on the change link, then type your new password and choose 'PASSWORD' from the drop down menu

-------------------Option #4 -------------------------------------------------
Only enter the details that are needed *DO NOT CHANGE the default username or password* in 'config.inc.php' and then copy it back to your server again.

You should be able to gain access to admin with the defaults, you can then change your username and password from there.

Hope that helps

Well, Andrew let us know what works if any. Will try myself this weekend when I have more time.

tried all above but none work, most arnt even relateed to the specific problem of not being able to remebr y password and user name, apart from trying to access the MYSQL database and replacing files etc, that may work, but i cant get any ruddy admin package to access the server let alone the database.

I still think that best bet is to write some code which ill print the existing username and password on the screen.

I am considering to lear php to solve this one... but i hope someone can help.

Just one more item not covered:

  • You must CHMOD all of the files in the directory "templates" to 777.

  • If they are not, you may not edit changes to the templates in the Administration program. The directory is just fine as established as 755.

    Andrew -

You have more problems. You do not know:

Just had the same problem and came across this fix, try putting the username in as ' or 1=1 or 'a'='a and the password ' or 1=1 or 'a'='a
