editing templates

Please help this learner.

1. How do i edit the templates? (It reads as so when I try: 'Warning: fopen(./templates/entry.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/friendso/public_html/guestbook/lib/admin.class.php on line 180

Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/friendso/public_html/guestbook/lib/admin.class.php on line 181

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/friendso/public_html/guestbook/lib/admin.class.php on line 187)

2. How do I change the following text on the first page: 'Thank you for stopping by my site. Here you can leave your mark'

okay, i've dealth with question one, but how do i change the following text on the first page: 'Thank you for stopping by my site. Here you can leave your mark' ?

go to your LANG folder and open english.php. You can edit it there, its down the first few lines.

I haven't really been using those language commands. I usually just replace wherever it calls that command with actually HTML of what I want it to say.
