I noticed when you install the advanced guestbook, at least through CPanel, it requires you to install it under the root directory. If you try to install it in a subdirectory it will say its not allowed.

I'm just wondering if there was a reason for this? I moved the directory it created into a subdirectory manually and it works fine. But I dont want a problem to come up in the future if your not supposed to. So, is there a reason it would need to be in a base directory?

No except that your hosts have probably mangled it. Actually I'm starting to think that Cpanel bundles these free scripts with it's software to entice hosts but they have mangled the scripts. My advice is always download the official version.

Warning! Do not install either of the gustbooks or the poll from proxy2.de thru cpanel!
They will either screw them up or take up to much disk space (why? no idea).

Download them from here and install yourself.

I don't know how cPanel can sell its software bundled with free software.
Even though proxy2.de stuff is opensource (i think).
