I've just installed the advanced guestbook onto my website and I am trying to edit the templates to make it prettier. It said I needed to give write premissions to the templates so I got into my FTP and changed changed the premissions for the templates directory to 777. However, it still wouldn't let me submit my settings. I then tried to CHMOD the main directory for everything to 777 then I tried the admin directory. Nothing is working. After I click the submit button I see this at the top of the page:

Warning: fopen(./templates/header.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/echoing/public_html/book/lib/admin.class.php on line 193

Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/echoing/public_html/book/lib/admin.class.php on line 194

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/echoing/public_html/book/lib/admin.class.php on line 200

What should I do?

Personally I'm against the ability to edit the templates via the admin as I see it as a security risk. I always recommend downloading the file using an FTP client and editing it on your system or get a text editor like PSPad which can edit the files on your server via FTP.
