Ha ha, belay that. I've just answered my own question: I just added background="whatever.jpg" in body of templates/header.php to see if that would do anything. Works fine.

I'm pretty new to the guestbook but...is this not a question for whoever hosts your website? They should be able to tell you how to change permissions from your File Manager.
