The advanced guestbook is a beautiful addition for many sites.
I, like many others I suspect, stumbled upon it as it was provided for install by my ISP
Up until I installed it my only experience was with html, css and 48 hours trying to get a simple form to email script working.
I asked those irritating questions on this forum and got the one liner replies but I was never ignored. Carbonise, Amber222 and others enabled me to get the AGB the way I wanted it and yes I learnt a little about php & cgi on the way.
They did not demand payment and I have never needed to phone a premium rate help line (if one existed)
My original post in this thread was my effort to pass on what I had learnt while still enough of a newbie not to take for granted prior experience of tweaking forms etc.
It may have been a clumsy attempt but I know at least one person managed to follow them - so the post was worthwhile.
With the help of contributors to this forum I have managed to produce two guestbooks. One merged into the site using the header & footer adjustments the other as described above. I have managed to import the data from another guestbook to AGB on my drrinK! site. I have made the email a required field on my flynns bee farm site and then used carbonizes method of encrypting the email address to help protect visitors from resulting spam. As well as other mods that I won't bore you with here but when I was stuck I would post to this forum and receive either a complete solution or a one line prod in the right direction often within minutes of posting.
My repayment for this help is to put my two-penneth in occasionally on this forum safe in the knowledge that if I'm wrong someone will tell.

I'm running internet explorer ver. 6.0.2800. on windows XP
on your page I see images at locations 13, 15 & 22 only
I've just had a look in the public folder and as you say the pictures are there. I'll try pulling one out of there and uploading it myself to the GB
This is weird I located the file at http://www.myurl.co.uk/mygbfolder/public/img-1104484235.jpg
copied it and entered it into the GB My browser ignored it
I trimmed off the bit of white space either side of the picture then entered it in to the gb and presto!

Thankyou Sir,
That sorted that out.
Thats seven out of eight that see the picture in GB entries 140 & 143
at http://www.jrmmusic.co.uk/gbook/index.php at present it's only my browser that does not render the pictures.
as you say "god knows"
cheers

Thankyou Carbonize for your prompt reply.
Yes I can see the other pictures and I just checked on another computer and the picture shows on that one using the same browser version. Hope god is watching this forum!
I haven't messed with the base_url variable yet will try now.
The head section? is that header.php where I replaced all with my html?

Morning,
I've searched the forum for this but can't find an answer.
on my guestbook at: http://www.jrmmusic.co.uk/gbook/index.php
at entry 140 the signer has included a picture - I can't see this on my computer but others can: is it a browser issue? I've turned off anti virus.
Can I look in the AGB files to check the existance of the up-loaded pictures? Also on my other guestbook if you click a picture a pop-up appears with the original uploaded image this does not seem to work at drrinK!
cheers in advance, fj

I'm beginning to feel a bit of a pest but here goes.
I'm moving an advanced guestbook to another site so I thought I'd take the opportunity to take Carbonizes advice and change the header and footer files rather than embed it the hard way.
I've done this on a clean install so nothing should be interferring with it but: The pages all render as I'd hoped except for the success page which seems only to read the footer information I've put the link to my stylesheet page in the footer which helped a bit but I'd like to see the header there as well.
Any ideas please?

THANK YOU
Good stuff it works! returns drrinK! for drrinK! as well - no double !!
It's sorted everything out. Thought I'd try other miss-spellings in administration now with your "hack" in place - they now work.
Thanks again, I'm going to enjoy this. I just have to pre-empt how many ways there are to miss-spell drrinK!

yes that's exactly what I'm after,
It's become a standing joke that very few people "spell" our name right.
The press and venues rarely get it! drrinK!
we get: drink (of course) but also DRINK drinkkk we've even had Driink (honest) and very rarely do they use the ! and we really want ! not !!!
Anyway I 'spose it's not really life or death but it would certainly amuse the band & our regulars if we could force the correct spelling on the guestbook

thanks for taking the time chaps,
I've tried a couple of variations ( & but AGB just displays whatever is between the quotes (be they single or double)
"another!" works ok
Oh dear just tried removing drink related banned words from administration/general settings and drinK! now replaces swear words it seems the multiple ! occurs only when the miss-spellings such as drink, Drink etc. are present in the banned word list.
might have to forget this one, would have been neat tho'

yep
I've tried a few variations I guess it doesn't like the amount of letters:
"drri!" & 'drrin!' work but "drrinK!" and 'drrink!' return drrinK!!! or drrink!!!
I tried a phrase and it repeated 3 times I tried a gap before the last quote and got drrinK ! ! !

just tried the single quotes same result !!!
by the way - Thank You for taking the time to help
it's much appreciated

I've just made the changes in lib/vars.class.php
assume it's a similar file to lib/vars.inc.php.
as I found $replace = "#@*%!"; and changed the #@*%!
part but strangely if I replace it with drrinK! I get multiple !!! - if I leave out the ! don't get any.

Yes I was referring to the Advanced Guestbook.
Your reply spot on - Thank You very much sir.
Just in case you're curious, I did say don't ask, but I'm re-designing my bands site http://www.drrink.co.uk if you look it's still the old version - still revamping locally.
We are a little bit precious over how to spell our name: drrinK!
not Drrink, DRRINK or drink. The censor feature in AGB seems too good not to abuse!
Before I go live, I'm transferring the old simple GB entries into AGB at a tempory location (http://www.jrmmusic.co.uk) presently I'm doing it by hand in phpMyAdmin using insert edit as the raw data would be incompatible the simple GB data uses the same date encoding so I'm just cutting and pasting my way through it.
Is there a better way? If not - I was wondering if in any future releases a similar insert command could be put in the administration section of AGB? from the forum it looks as if other users would be interested in such a feature.
Been looking at your site carbonize excellent work and very helpfull content.
Thanks again,
fj
