so that means those bots actually can read the images produced by AG2.4.3 to get through the security checks by themselves? they really are smart.

Sorry for silly questions as I am like half computer illiterate.
Carbonize wrote:Ah no you don't have GD installed on your server which is damn weird as it's free and tends to come with PHP anyway. AG has CAPTCHA because it creates a bitmap captcha image to use which is something I haven't got round ot yet.

I'd suggest using the question & answer method I put in to Lazarus as it is just as effective as CAPTCHA or perhaps even more so since bots can read some captcha but they wouldn't understand the question/instructions in SAPTCHA (the questin & answer method).

At some point in the future I will be implementing reCaptcha support so GD won't be an issue. Downside being it's English only.

Thanks for answering. I have no idea about the server as I am using a hosting service right now.

I am just curious, how do those bots work? If i put a question there, will a person answer it the first time and repetatively use the bot the answer the same answer to spam attack me?

I will ask the hosting if they can have the GD installed. Whats the full name of GD may I ask?
Carbonize wrote:Did CAPTCHA work in AG ?

You can use the question/answer method for now.

yes it did.

www.usual-album.com/a_board <-- this is the old guestbook

www.usual-album.com/a_newboard <-- this is the new one.
you can take a look and comment please.
thanks.

I have successfully installed the Lazarus. Thanks a bunch.

However, at the security section, i can't activate "Use image verification (CAPTCHA)." It says, "Sorry but you do not have GD installed and so cannot use image verification"

How should I solve it?

Thanks.
Carbonize wrote:Well one way would be to read the source code and get the delete link from that or you could use phpMyAdmin if your host provides it and delete them directly from the database.

Failing that take a look at Lazarus.

i would very much like to upgrade to lazarus if the anti-spamming is good.
could you please guide me through on how to upgrade it from 2.4.3 to lazarus?
thanks.
Hi,

I am at 2.4.3 upgrade already but i am still seriously spammed everyday.

Is there any suggestion from you to prevent this?

Thanks a lot.

Also, there are some spams that I cannot delete because there are attachments of the messages and moved the "replies of messages" right, and the "edit/delete" is hidden.

Here is a screenshot where you can see message 596 the 2 "replies of message", there are no "edit/delete".

How would you suggest me to solve this?

Many thanks.

Carbonize wrote:You need to download the guestbook again and copy the database information from your current config file to the one that comes with the latest guestbook as some things are different.

Oh gosh, it totally works.
it was my mistake I was using the old config file as I saw from some other post the old one should be untouched.

that was my misunderstanding.

thanks a lot and have a good day.
Carbonize wrote:1 - You need to copy your information from the old config.inc.php to the new one

2 - Then you need to visit http://www.usual-album.com/a_bos38/misc/update_db.php

thanks.

but i have already updated the

$GB_DB["dbName"] = "XXX";
$GB_DB["host"] = "localhost";
$GB_DB["user"] = "XXX";
$GB_DB["pass"] = "XXXXX";

exactly the same to the previous one and

also updated

$GB_PG["base_url"] = "http://www.usual-album.com/a_bos38/"; /* e.g http://www.domainname.com/guestbook/img */

$DB_CLASS = "mysql.class.php";
$TEC_MAIL = "allan@usual-album.com";
$GB_UPLOAD = "public";
$GB_TMP = "tmp";

(previously the base_url was not filled in and the $TEC_MAIL was a different email address)

when i visited http://www.usual-album.com/a_bos38/misc/update_db.php , it still asked me to "Please update config.inc.php first."

please walk me through? thanks
I was trying to install the 2.4.3 upgrade from previously 2.3.1

I replaced all the files from the previous guestbook except the config.inc.php under the admin folder.

however, when I tried to sign the guestbook or reply an entry, it gives me these:

http://www.usual-album.com/a_bos38/addentry.php
and
http://www.usual-album.com/a_bos38/comment.php?gb_id=1250

would you happen to be able to walk me through whats wrong?

thanks a lot first for creating such nice guestbook.

By the way, is this 2.4.3. anyhow anti-spam? I have been spammed so badly for years and I finally decided to upgrade to 2.4.3. hoping for anti-spam.
