I know this problem has been posted before but I found no answers that fixed my problem. The script is looking for images here http://img/icq.gif and here http://includes//images/signing.gif. The strangest thing is everyone is reffering to a configuration file. I don't have one. Where should the config file be? Should the install script create it? How can I get one? This is the link;
http://www.puresoap.com/gbook.php the page loads real slow because of the images not loading. [/url]

You know that that is BS. Yes we are frustrated guestbook users, but I have answered a lot of questions. even though I am as clueless as the next.

You all need to quit attacking these people!
Guestbook is simple enough to admin so sit down and look thru the manual, ok.
The problem is that your doc root is not set correctly.
You said it yourself that it's looking for images in http://img/ folder, right?
Does that folder exist on your server? I doubt it.
It's more like this http://www.yourdomainname.com/guestbook/img/
I suggest you use iFrame to get the guestbook incorporated in your page design instead of simply inserting the code

Actually IFrame is not the way to go. (my opion) on my site I used php includes and then wrapped them around the index.php, addentry.php and comment.php files. I then stripped the admin templates clean of any html. The php includes are the site template and is global throughout the entire site. With three files, I can update the entire site. Also I placed an anti spam feature in the guestbook that now converts all emails into RAW ASCII (view the source of the guestbook and look for the emails...they are just numbers) and then added the much needed Yahoo instant messenger field.

IFrame is okay, but if you want a truly intergrated guestbook, this is not the way to go..... just my opion

You are correct about php include command, it is much more compatible with old browsers than iFrame but on the other hand I've found it just a little bit more confusing (for a beginner) to do that. That's all.

You're right I don't know what the hell either one of you are talking about but it sounds interesting

I know nothing about writing php code so I changed all of the variables that I could find that pointed to images and changed them to urls. That worked great until I tried uploading an image and I am right back to this again http://img/smilies/a1.gif. I was told that my problem is that I don't have the guestbook in my catalog folder (I am using OSC) but I want my catalog to be my homepage. You can take a look at the guestbook here http://www.puresoap.com/gbook.php

To those that say they've answered question about the guestbook....thank you.
BUT look back over the posts, guestbookbook users hardly ever get a response.
Most of use want to use the guestbook on a 1st time website and we're feeling our way through and need lots of help. We're trying to learn but we do need the help.
Jared - There was a question a while back about making the email appear as an image so email spiders don't see them. You came back with a fix in ASCII. Great, but how do you do it?? Go find that question and but the answer in there.

So far I've put 10 request for help in during the last 10 months and have got zero help. I'd love to use this guestbook, but without assistance, why should I.

Well, how else you gonna learn something?
Everything I know about PHP and this guestbook I've learned on my own.
I know that people don't respond much here but that's because evebody wants easy way out when they are stuck
Do a little research on the net, buy couple of books and thing will start to happen

I’m supposed to go out and learn PHP and SQL ??? Why, to do a couple of minor things to the guestbook that would help improve it for my use? Somebody been smoking dat wacky weed with the Dell dude.

OK – here’s the scenario - Got lots of grand kids, so we decide to take advantage of the internet and show off the family to everybody. Our ISP offers a special hosting plan for those who have broadband, so we take advantage of it. Get a domain name, get Front Page and learn how to put up a web site showing off the grand kids. Our ISP has this guestbook as something you can install. Well with a little help from the folks at my ISP I have it up and running.

Now I’d like to make some minor changes for use on this particular site.

And you young kids out there have the moxie to tell me to go out and learn PHP and SQL, “because everybody wants easy way out when they are stuck”.

I guess you generation X folks couldn’t care less.

had the same problem, solved it by removing "IMG" from the config.inc.php
original example= $GB_PG["base_url"] = "http://yourdomain.com/guestbook/img";

corrected example=$GB_PG["base_url"] = "http://yourdomain.com/guestbook";

when i left it in, and looked at the image properties, for some reason the code put http://yourdomain/guestbook/img/img. removing it solved it
hope this helps

even though the settings in the config.inc.php were correct, i didnt see any images.

solution for me was do make the base url relative, so instead of
htpp://www.mydomain.com/guestbook
i put in
/guestbook
and all was solved
