i've installed advanced guestbook via my host's (ipowerweb) control panel, and it was working fine. when i tried to add new fields and add the yahoo and msn modules, i found out there is a newer version of advanced guestbook out (i was using 2.2) and so i've decided to upgrade. i found posts that said i would need to upgrade using phpmyadmin, but i'm not familiar with that at all so i decided to download advanced guestbook 2.3.1 and install a new copy under a new database. here's where i ran into problems:
1. when i try to install the guestbook with http://my_domain/guestbook/install.php (i replaced "my_domain" with the domain name), it takes forever to install and when a new window finally does open, it says "Cannot create new database" with "Error Number: 2013 Lost connection to MySQL server during query" i know i've entered the correct database, mysql host, and mysql username, so i don't know what could've happened.
2. after this, i deleted the database and started a new one, and tried deleting the old guestbook files in my server as well. deleting the database is no problem, but when i try deleting the old guestbook files via an ftp client (i use ws ftp), it won't let me delete the entire file, because the admin folder is not empty. however, when i click on the admin folder, there are no files in there. now there is a guestbook folder in my server with just the admin folder in it, seemingly emtpy, that i cannot delete. are there other files that are linked to the admin folder? how can i get rid of the files?
3. after step #2, i tried doing everything from scratch and deleted the old database, created a new one, and installing a fresh copy. same exact problem. now, since i created the new guestbook under a folder named gbook, there is an gbook folder with the seemingly empty admin folder.
does anyone have any idea what i'm doing wrong? any help would be appreciated. thanks.
