Advanced Poll seems to be a wonderfull software package, but, there is no installation support (or maybe it is hidden somewhere I can't find...), and I can't get off the ground with missing files and directories at the installation procedure (install.php)
Please can any one offer me any help ?
I may also say that this site is very well constructed, but the issues should be sorted by subject, so one could find answers to the problems more easily.
Best regards

I'm sorry. In part, it was my fault.

Anyone who will istall Advanced Poll:

Pay attention to WinZip "extract" function. Some times it will unpack everything into just one directory, which will make all the troubles.

Use Winrar instead. it will automatically create all subdirectories and then one can see the structure of the system and problems like this one of mine will be avoided.....

I made some progress after finding all directories...
With the db version, it seems that MySql has no permition to deal with this system in the area the system wants.
With the text version: The browser can't find the "admin.php" file. I couln't find it into the download area neither.
Is there anybody who can give me some clues ?
Best regards.

Hi there. I only installed the text version and here's what I did:

1. Upload all the files in the certain directory you want. I named mine "poll".

2. CHMOD:

3. Go to your poll admin (it is not admin.php but rather admin/index.php): http://www.yourdomain.com/poll/admin/index.php and log in with the default username and password.

4. Change the user name and password.

5. Go to the "General Settings" Change the url to poll directory, url to image directory, etc....

6. Customize the "Templates" if you want.

7. Create your poll, necessary php files and customize (if you want) existing php files like test.php, list.php.................

Ooops... I meant:

1. Upload all the files of the textfile version. I renamed mine from "textfile" as "poll" instead.

I have to confess that I'm still having problems with the text version, even after following all instructions above and in the readme.txt.
Does anybody know what permitions have to have the /admin and the /poll directories ?
The message bellow comes as soon as I access the /admin/index.php page, and it shows that permition problems still occur in my setup.
Will appreciate any help.

,

What you have to do:

Mysql installation:

create a directory called "poll"
copy all the files and submaps which can be found in the phppoll directory under the submap "db"

These files you must copy to your "poll" directory.

+ Poll
- admin (sub dir)
- image (sub dir)
- include (sub dir)
- install (sub dir)
- lang (sub dir)
- misc (sub dir)
- templates (sub dir)

and all the included .php files and the demo.shtml file

Now go to your browser and type as example:

http://www.yourdomain.com/poll/install.php

You will get a automatic software installation which creates the My SQL
tables for you and if it's finished press done.

Now point your browser to:

http://www.yourdomain.com/poll/admin/index.php

and there you go

I hope this will help you if you need MySQL for your server download the latest version 2.2.5 phpmyadmin from phpwizard.net

Good luck,

Regards,

Hello!

I'm having a problem with installation as well. Everything goes fine until I log on and go to general settings, where I have to fill in "URL to poll directory" and "URL to image directory". The examples given are "/~poll/pollphp/textfile" and "/~poll/pollphp/textfile/image".

What kind of URLs are those? What's called for? I've stuck in everything I can think of - absolute URL, relative URL, absolute and relative path, and every time I get a javascript alert "invalid value."

Thanks for any help - looks like a great package, if I could only get it to work!
