Can't change permissions on image files using ftp program  XML

Help me!
I've recently successfully switched my guestbook to a new host. The problem that I'm having is that some of the images that were posted aren't showing up. I checked the public folder on my old host, and for some reason some of the permissions are 644 and some are 600. I tried changing the 600 ones to 644 using filezilla and the cpanel x program through the host, but it doesn't change the permissions. It acts like it does, doesn't show me any error messages, but the numbers don't change. When I download the files, they look like they've been downloaded, only they are 0 kb, and obviously don't open up when I click on them. I've searched through these forums and others, but I can't seem to find any explanation.
What the heck is going on?
The address of the guestbook is http://www.castofcharactersmusic.com/bulletinboard/guestbook/index.php.
Any help would be very appreciated!

If the filesize says zero, it sounds like they weren't uploaded correctly. Some files have to be uploaded in ASCII, some in binary. Most FTP programs have an automatic feature to switch between the two when necessary. Perhaps there is a problem with your FTP program or your host if you are sure you uploaded and changed the permissions correctly.

There is a post on this forum that explains permissions and changing them from CPanel, although you sound like you already knew what you were doing. If you want to read it, you can find it listed on the Topic "Advanced Guestbook Fixes and Mods".

Did you set your base url in the admin/config.inc.php file?

Perhaps you should post your questions at: http://carbonize.co.uk/Board/viewforum.php?f=10

I guess I should explain a few more things. The guestbook was up and running perfectly with the old host. Once I decided to switch to the new host, I exported my original database to a .sql file and imported it to the new host. I also copied all of the folders within the guestbook and uploaded them to the new host.
The part that makes no sense is that on the old host the image files have the correct file size, it's not until I try to download them to my hard drive that they show up as being 0 kb. When I try to access them through CPanelX (that hosts control panel) I can see that the permissions are different for different images (I don't know why), and I can view the ones that have 644, but the ones that have 600 won't open to view, and when I try to change the permissions it does nothing.
I really don't know much about php other than what I've had to learn so far, but this still makes no sense to me. All of the images I have posted on the new guestbook (with the new host) link up fine.
Also, how would disabling the html effect this?

Sorry about the long post, but I want to explain my situation. Thanks so much for responding!

Probably a good idea to download the script afresh and upload the files from it.

Sorry, that was just a warning having nothing to do with your question, which is why I put it in a separate post. Just figured you have enough problems, so why risk getting hacked, too.

"Probably a good idea to download the script afresh and upload the files from it."

Would that help? When I'm saying the images don't download, its the ones in the "public" folder that people have uploaded with their posts. The ones in the "img" folder work fine...

I'm about ready to give up on ever getting these images back... I guess its not that important..

Thanks for your help.
