I modified my guestbook ( http://www.danopia.5gigs.com/guestbook ) to use AIM Presence for AOL Instant Messager Screenames. If anyone is interested, I could provide information on getting a key from AIM, etc.
Basicly, this is what a AIM screename becomes:[ NOTE ]
The icon and link is not here because phpBB hates "aim:" type links and only allows .jpg or .gif pictures.

I was thinking of putting it in Lazarus but they say it's for a single site only and whilst it works for any site right now they might start enforcing the rules eventually. Also the images for away etc may be confusing as they are not really AIM related.

Picky, picky. Okay, how about the default AIM icon, followed by AIM Status: or something and then the icon? Or maybe just the two icons side-by-side. Or maybe "AIM: " and the the status icon.
Or, I could parse the AIM Presense XML feed and display the actual word status.
Also, you could store the key in the DB and allow users to enter one in the settings to enable the status indicator so you shouldn't have a problem with AIM.

I've just implemented the presence into my copy of Lazarus so will see how it goes. Not that many people use AIM these days. They are trying hard to make a come back but I think it's to little to late.

Don't tell me that, now that I'm working on my AIM Bot (DanopiaBot) and wasted a lot of time...
Also, I use a lot more then AIM (clicky), but I only know how to add AIM Presence, I don't even know if there is a Yahoo Presence.

Yes there is. Yahoo has always had presence. Look at my guestbook on http://lazarus.carbonize.co.uk

Here's something that Google got me: http://www.onlinestatus.org/
A sample is at http://imstatus.msitgroup.co.uk:81/ . A lot of hosts are avalible, and if I actually implement this, I might run my own server.

Yes my host runs one of these for use on their forums. I personally see no need for it now most IM's have presence. I think only MSN is lacking it.
I did come across something when looking into AIM presence about a way of doing it and specifying your own online/offline images.

Online Status allows that. Also, all the iamges would be consistent. However, my server probably won't allow me to run another process and I don't want to hijack someone else's bandwith.
