I am having a huge spamming problem. I've done just about everything that I can do! I have the IPs logged and I have at least 100 IPs on the list and I'm adding 5 or 6 new IPs everyday. I have a human verification test. I'm out of ideas and the spam... it's affecting my traffic. People do not want to sign my guestbook because it vandalized with rape porn and herbal ad links. It's ridiculous! What can I do?

Yes it looks like some spammers have bypassed the CAPTCHA or rather wrote a program that reads it. A temporary fix is to rename the guestbook folder.

I recently saw a video showing a spamming program that could read the CAPTCHA on forums such as phpBB, IPB etc. They use the program to sign up and post spam. The video also hinted that it could do guestbooks.

You suggest to rename the guestbook? Well I tried that, and no sooner than I renamed mine, the spam kept coming in. Is there anymore to do?

Rename the folder and use a robots.txt file to stop Google and other search engines listing it.

Thank you for that suggestion, I will have to try that one.

Now, I know this wont work for everyone, but I am wanting to put a password on the post form, I only get certain people posting at my guestbook, but I dont want to have to install another guestbook or forum to do this. I have tried but I can not get it working. Right now, no matter what I put in it, it tells me one of my fields is not correct.
I am taking the password field from the comment.php and fitting it in the form. (three places is where I have found to configure it.)
I am trying to figure that part out, but so far have come up blank on that.
If you have any suggestions please let me know, because these are just about my last resorts to attempt to get rid of the spam.
And I really like this script, and definatly do not want to get rid of it.

Try turning off captcha for a while. The on/off is in config.inc.php.
