I want to make sure that I install and use the correct version for Advanced Poll, and I couldn't seem to locate any type of help or readme file that indicated the difference with the two folders.

If you don't know, or don't have a database, you should use the textfile one. There isnt really a big difference, its just that the textfile just uses a flat plain textfile to store its data in...
