Since tonight I have a php error message, but I don't know what it means:
Warning: fread(): Length parameter must be greater than 0.
in /home/public_html/gastenboek/lib/template.class.php on line 45

Does anybody know what it means and how to fix it?

Are you getting this error message at the start of the page or halfway down? I assume you are getting it on the index page.

Can't see why it suddenly started on July 14th unless your host changed their PHP version on that date. fread(filename, amounttoread) is the problem. In the code he uses
[code]fread ($fd, filesize ($filename))[/code]
which means read the file named in the variable $fd for x amount of characters. He uses filesize($filename) to indicate he wants the whole of the template file to be read. For some reason the script is being told that th size of $filename is 0.

As an experiment open up lib/template.class.php and find[code]$filename = "$this->root_dir/templates/$tpl";
if (file_exists("$filename")) {[/code]

and between the two lines add[code]die($filename);[/code]
Hopefully this should stop the script at this point and tell the browser to display the path name of the template it is looking for. I hope anyway.

Can't see the problem lying in the permissions but can you check the permissions on entry.php (chmod).

Well if the path name is correct and the file is not empty why is it returning a 0 I'll look into reasons why filesize may report wrong sizes.

I changed my the code;
$this->template[$tpl] = fread ($fd, filesize ($filename))

to...
$this->template[$tpl] = fread ($fd, 10000);

And then the message dissapeard... don't know if 10000 is for ~10 Mb ...but... maybe someone with a little more PHP knowledge can tell me?!

Ok well thats one idea out of the window. If it's returning the right file size I don't see the problem :| try removing the stuff I asked you to put in and then
remove the whitespace in the code.
[code]fread ($fd, filesize ($filename))[/code]
to
[code]fread ($fd, filesize($filename))[/code]
Shouldn't make a difference but you never know.

or just remove
[code]die ($filename.' size = '.$thesize);[/code]
and replace [code]fread ($fd, filesize ($filename))[/code]
with
[code]fread ($fd, $thesize)[/code]

Could it have something to do with other chmod-permissions on files, who are not accessible, so eg. size is not readable by the script...just thinking...

The size is readable as it returned[code]/home/****/public_html/gastenboek/templates/entry.php size = 894 [/code] in our earlier experiment.

I mean which of the changes I mentioned in my previous post. Did you try removing the whitespace from [code]filesize ($filename)[/code] ? or did you leave in
[code]$thesize= filesize($filename);[/code]
and replace filesize ($filename) with $thesize ?

OK this is weird because it's providing the right size when we used [code]$thesize = filesize($filename);[/code] This is why I suggested trying [code]$thesize = filesize($filename);
fread ($fd, $thesize);[/code] but you're telling me this doesn't work :evil: Ask your hosts if they made any changes on the date when it stopped working as thats the only reason I can think of for it to stop working.

ps. I know there is more to the fread line than just fread I'm just paraphrasing.

Well I may be offline for a day or two. I was doing a disc clean up last night and windows decided to go and start deleting every file on the C drive had to reinstall windows which is no fun at 22:30. I will reinstall [url=http://www.trillian.cc][u]Trillian[/u][/url] or [url=http://gaim.sourceforge.net][u]Gaim[/u][/url] either today or tomorrow. Feel free to email the templates.class.php file to me in the meantime.

As an experiment open up lib/template.class.php and find

grrrr it should automatically have made a file called errortest.txt :evil: oh well make a file called errortest.txt and upload it into the same directory as addentry.php and chmod the file to 777. Change the code to [code]fopen("/home/brasseur/public_html/gastenboek/errortest.txt", 'a');[/code]This way it will look fr the file in the gastenboek directory.

I probably should of used the full path in the first place.

Only file with size 0 is footer.php...would that be the prob? -ADDED: Well, I checked the original file, and the footer-thing is where it says "powered by...."

Carbonize...I inserted the original text in the footer between comment tags, and now the error message is gone...apparently none of the files may be 0 bytes "large", they should at least have 1 byte or so is my guess...

Did you mistakenly delete the info in your footer.php file? Here is a copy of footer.php if you need it. Iam assuming its version 2.3.1
