Hmm... I don't know if I understood it... because when I go to the page and press "Sign The Guestbook" or "Administator" it shows page cannot be displayed. I got to display the guestbook in the layout... but pictures and links doesn't work.

From your first post I thought you were wanting a guestbook page just like any normal guestbook but with other stuff on the page - a menu at the left, heading at the top etc - something along those lines. Is that right?

As for 'page cannot be displayed' etc could be any number of things.

What's the URL for your guestbook?

I'm sorting out my own problems with 'page cannot be displayed' - not in the guestbook but 850 pages on the site, all to be changed manually 'cos they're not dynamic - I hate repetitive things like that almost as much as I hate webhosts who change hosting packages ever so slightly and cause these problems in the first place.

Sorry 'bout that - just getting it off my chest. Anyways, post your URL so we can see what's happening.

if its a common change have you a program that can do a string replace in each file?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply - yes it's a common change. I have 3 include tags on each page but I never used extensions with the filenames (e.g include 12345 instead of include 12345.html) so I just need to add the extension.

Strange thing is it worked fine until yesterday afternoon and is only affecting files in 2 folders - everything else still works fine with or without extensions.

I can open each file one at a time and do a find and replace but it would be much better as you say, to do a string search on the whole lot. Any ideas?

The 'include' tag seems to have worked

Problem with the links is that they're pointing to a none existent page. For example, the 'sign guestbook' link points to [color="blue"]http://www.nullproblem.com/addentry.php[/color] but your addentry page is at [color="blue"]http://www.nullproblem.com/gjestebok/addentry.php [/color]- should be just a case of changing the links.

Similar thing with your graphics except there's no base URL. For example, the img src for the little 2 x computers logo is [color="blue"]http://img/ip.gif [/color]and on your site it should be [color="blue"]http://www.nullproblem.com/gjestebok/img/ip.gif[/color].

Not quite sure what's happened there as the base URL is consistent throughout the guestbook but somehow you've got it working in some places but not others. Did you manually change the image links?

Have a mess about correcting those links and it should all work fine. Whilst your changing things I'd be tempted to get rid of the links to the admin page as well.

Just gone back and had a look at your guestbook...

Your guestbooks just a tiny bit too big for a 1024 x 768 screen resolution, which is what most people have. You've got width tags set to 1024 in a few places - maybe change them to about 970.

Just a thought.

Thanks, but where is the codes for images and for the links? In which file are they located?

Also, when I placed the guestbook file in the guestbook folder where all the other stuff is, the links worked BUT I want all the pages to be displayed in the "gjestebok.php" file and not like 3-4 different if you know what I mean? Is there any commands which can allow that?

All the images are in the folder called [i]img [/i](the smilies are in a sub-folder called [i]smilies[/i]).

Not sure how you've got your pages set up, but if you're using an [i]include [/i]tag to pull in files from the guestbook, to a page outside the guestbook folder, this could be what's causing the problems with base_url.

Try this: Open each file in the [i]templates [/i]folder one by one, do a search for [color="blue"]base_url [/color]and change the img src path. In other words, when you come across something like this...

Replace it with something like this...

That way it doesn't matter where your guestbook pages are (they could be in a different folder / sub-folder / site / server etc) and the images will still be included.

That should do it.

Open up the admin/config.php and look for where it asks you to input a BASE_URL or something similar. It is not getting the correct url so you will have to put the guestbooks url in this variable.

I tried what you said first Carbonize, but that didn't work... So now I'm working on what you said Trevor It works atleast. But now the problem is more this:

When I press on Sign the guestbook it goes to a new page and doesn't stay in the layout I wish all of that could stay in the layout

I don't know much about this, but look at the source code for the two documents, specifically in the script near the bottom:

I'm wondering if it's the path that was placed in the file. Since you are already in the guestbook directory when you are at the index page, when you go to addentry, do you need the "gjestebok/" in the path...?

I was just pointing out that when I look at the source code, there is a javascript in both the guestbook/index.php and guestbook/addentry.php files. But the code is not quite the same in each one. Since both of these files are in the same directory, and the script is calling the same thing, I would think they would be identical. But now that I think about it, you are trying to do something entirely different, and I am not the person to advise you on this. You should just disregard my previous post.

Perhaps Trevor will be able to help you when he returns.

OK the problem is that you have used an include call to place the guestbook outside of it's own directory and the image paths are coded to be correct when the page that is calling them is in the guestbook directory. Baiscally you have 2 choices.

1 - Do as I do and leave the guestbook in it's own directory and call a header and footer file from the guestbooks index.php.

2 - Open [b]admin/config.inc.php[/b] and look for [code]$GB_PG["base_url"] = "";[/code]
Change this to [code]$GB_PG["base_url"] = "http://www.nullproblem.com/gjestebok";[/code]
and if that doesn't work it's going to be a case of going through all the files and hardcoding in the correct image paths.

No, I was thinking more of the header and footer files which was going to be in the include... I understood the admin / config.inc.php thing.

But when I added the templates/header.php and templates/footer.php to the page it looked like this:

If you're going to put your guestbook within another page you are best of deleting the contents of the templates/header.php and templates/footer.php files. Back them up first and then replace the contents in both with a space or [b] [/b].

In your example though I see the header and footer I see no content.

I'll go into a bit more detail about what Carbonize and me were on about earlier...

Your guestbook uses a thing called [i]base_url [/i]- which, as the name suggests, is the base url.

When the guestbook runs it effectively replaces instances of [i]base_url [/i]with a predetermined value. In your gesutbook this should be [color="blue"]www.nullproblem.com/gjestebok[/color]

So, written into your guestbook are lines such as this...

[color="red"] [/color]

When you run the guestbook and it replaces [i]base_url [/i]what it then reads is this...

[color="red"][/color].

When I looked at your guestbook the other day it didn't seem to have any value for [i]base_url [/i]so instead of assigning [color="blue"]www.nullproblem.com/gjestebok/[/color] it was assigning nothing with the result it was trying to find images loctaed at [color="blue"]http://img/return.gif[/color].

I'm not sure how you've managed to unassign a value to [i]base_url [/i]but somehow it's happened.

I guess you've got 3 options...

1) Assign a value to [i]base_url[/i] as explained earlier

2) Reinstall and start again

3) Hard code it.

Personally I'd go for the hard coding option. That way you don't have any problems with moving files and folders and using [i]include[/i] tags to pull in files and images to pages outside the guestbook.

You need to replace every instance of [i]base_url [/i]and an easy way to make sure you don't miss any is to FTP guestbook to your computer and do a string search in all the files for [i]base_url[/i]. Then just open the files in your script editor, make whatever change,s and away you go.

That should do it. Right, it's the weekend, the rains stopped and I'm off out for the day so nothing more from me for a while. Besides, you've got Carbonize on the case so you're in good hands.

I understand what you mean But it's not working as it should... I guess

I did upload all the templates again (after doing the hardcoding thing to change all the base_url stuff) and now tried with addind a include header, include index and and include footer. Now the images work as they should, BUT not the links...

Why is that? I thought it was wierd, since the images are linked to the right places, then so should the links aswell... shouldn't they?
