excuse me for being thick!!! but how come when i insert a dhtml menu generated by nav studio 2005 into the page containing my guestbook it doesnt display?? it works fine on all other pages?

help!!

could it be because the site is all html - but the guestbook page is php??

I think the problem lies in the fact that the menu calls javascript files that are stored in the root of your site. You need to edit the menues [b]src=[/b] tags to point to the root. My advice is to add [b]http://www.simmerinstyle.co.uk/[/b] to the start of all the [b]src=[/b] in the menu section. For example change [b]src="code/simmer2.js"[/b] to [b]src="http://www.simmerinstyle.co.uk/code/simmer2.js"[/b]. Not to sure I like that particular menu script though. You may wish to look at DHTML menu maker by SoThink or visit www.dynamicdrive.com and look at some of the free scripts on there.

There's some errors in your html. The page fits my 800x600 screen nicely but you are getting a lot of white space to the right that is causing the horizontal scroll bar to appear.

If you've not fixed it by 7 tonight I'll have a look at it. I'm at work right now and my web design/coding software is at home.

I can tell you that you need to edit simmer2.js as it is pointing to images on your computer rather than on the website, ie [b]file:///C:/websitesimnewmenus/code/corner_arrow.gif[/b]

hmmm, i see what you mean!, im not quite sure how to fix that one though, my header image is 750px wide, i may need the help of the master for this one, i may stick with navstudio though - purely because its taken me ages to figure it out and seems daft to go through it all again!!

I had a look at your site in Firefox and it doesn't have the horizontal scroll, weird. The menu doesn't look as good in firefox though. A small piece of advice I can offer is to ALWAYS specify a background colour for the body tag as not all browser have a white background by default.

hi there - im setting all my backgrounds to white - thanks for that....
when i open a page in dreamweaver i get a message in traget browser check - "the vqptag attribute of the script tag is not supported" ie.5, 5.5, 6 etc.................could this be why the menus dont look right?

No. The tag in question is not a HTML tag but I believe is something the javascript uses for the menu.

The other reason I suggested a different menu is that I get a stupid javascript alert on every page because you are using the free version of the menu maker.

ah yes, i sorted the pop ups now!,

cant seem to find this reason for the horizontal scroll though, do you see it as that much of an issue? i thought most people are 1024 x 768 now anyway?
or am i being presumtious!

According to the stats for the most popular page on my site 800x600 is still the most common. Possibly because most businesses and schools use it.

Not really, most schools block about 90% of the web anyway.
For people at work they're too busy working we can say.

1024x768 is pretty much the standard. Since most PC's come with a
15 or 17" screen with a min resolution of 640x480 or 800x600 but their
default is 1024x768.

Admittedly we can argue like this about what the most common browser
^^ in my mind if it works in Safari it'll work in all other browser with very
minimal tweaking. That is, if you have a Mac lol.

Yup this is why I test all my pages in Internet Explorer, Opera and Firefox. I also use Firefox as my main browser as it has some nice extensions like web developer and edit css.

I still don't get Mozilla why build two browsers?

When you can build one that rules all???? Plus the name thing is just as funny as Windows next incarnation codenamed longhorn. And peeps were
complaining about Mac OS X 10.whatever being called Tiger lol

So far the best browser is probably Opera, in terms of DOM, CSS, etc

Oh please Opera sucks, specially for some Javascript/DHTML things. Mozilla built Firefox to be a standalone browser for people that didn't want to install the full Mozilla suite (browser, email client, IRC client, html editor). Same as they made Thunderbird. Mozilla are so impressed with how these turned out that they are replacing the browser in the Mozilla suite with Firefox. Even Netscape are impressed and Netscape 7.3 is based on Firefox and due early next year.

Yes but it still all ties together. The Mozilla browser actually opens a port on your computer to talk to the other components. Firefox used to do this as it is based upon the same code. Firefox has to be the most powerful browser available at present. Opera has gone downhill since 6 if you ask me and Internet Explorer is pretty much dead until Longhorn gets released.
