Page just showing: poll_process("newest"); ?>

I tried the poll from a simple page that I called poll.php (had nothing in it but the code for the poll). From my .htm page I included the poll.php (server side include). The poll shows fine but after I vote, it sends me to a page result, not back to the .htm I was including it from.
Anyone know how to fix that so I get the results in the same space as the poll?

Then I tried the snipped provided to include in my .htm page. I included the cookie code above the html tag, and the rest of the code where I want to see the poll displayed. But in this case, instead of the poll, i just get this:
poll_process("newest");
?>
Any ideas why?

I could use either of the solutions, but neither is working as I want them. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm new to all this, but from what I've read, it seems that your pages have to be .php, so you might want to change it to that extension and try it.
