It looks like I many have the number one spammed guestbook now. I changed the address last month but Google search picked it up under Adv. Guestbook 2 3 1. again and put it on page one, third & fourth ones down. Today the spam is starting to come in every 10 or 20 min. Today I changed the link name on the bottom to "Adv. G/Book 2 3 1" and will be changing the address soon.
Do think that I should replace the guestbook with a guestbook for spammers, with no links coming back to my site just so we can see who’s doing it, and maybe have some fun making the title something like “Spammers of The Week”
If anyone wants to take a look, this is the link: http://camelphotos.com/guest_bk/index.php

By the way, I have the HTML codes disabled.
For the censor words, I have set up the ones below just to make sure.

Spammers rarely flood. As for your censor words they serve no purpose as you have HTML disabled. As JTD stated check out some of the anti spam modifications I have written. You will find them in either the Advanced Guestbook forum or my own forum which is linked in my signature.

This morning I moved my guestbook and changed the links going to it, and just for the fun of it I used the old link and made a “Spammers of the week book”. Already got two spammers on it this morning, they even have to click the “Sign the Spambook” to post.

Just having some fun,

I was just using the simple anti spam mod and made www.carbonize.co.uk/Guestbook/index2.php to show all the spam entries. Now I use human verification I may as well delete it but will leave it for a while. Ignore the comments as they are for the REAL entries.

With the HTML disabled the spammers could still put links to wherever they wanted. Using the censor words like http:// stops them from doing this. The new guestbook that I set up for spammers has the HTML disabled but I did not set the censor words yet, and now their links work when they spam.

You have AGCode enabled? This is what they tend to use.

Since I moved my guestbook and put up a new guestbook (spambook) in its place, I have gotten spammed 92 times in 3 days. It looks like they are all coming from the same spamming program. The URL and IP address are all different and fake, but all of the links go back to the same site.
I will try putting some of the spam blocking code on this book to see if I can do it right before I put it on my main guestbook that I had to move.

Try my human verification mod as it's a good balance between simplicity and effectiveness.

I was getting a ton of spam on my american idol guestbook and I installed the verification mod and haven't had a single spam comment yet and it has been well over a month. Before I was getting at least 10 a day

Ie got the same spammer attcking my forum, and its a police forum! not so good - its unofficial, but still not good -iv increased the flooding, that prevented the bombardment, but it works this out and adjusts as required! ive added http:// to my list of words, will see how that goes, i dont really want to do the human verifacation (not atually looked at whats involved, )
is there a way of blocking dns names aswell as ips?

No but a dns name is just an IP resolved. I have written a mod to store IP and not hostname. The human verification is simple and most guests understand why it is there. It's just like signing an I AGREE box on a form.

Yesterday, our church website recieved this entry in the guestbook:
From: Lord.Hacker@linhost218.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net
Add to Address Book,
Lord Hacker
<META HTTP-EQUIV=\"Refresh\" CONTENT=\"0; URL=http://www.freewebtown.com/smarthack/Hacked.htm\">
I DID NOT CLICK ON THE LINK ABOVE!
It took over the guestbook entirely. A flashing screen appeared, notifying us that we had been hacked - I could not delete the entry. I had to uninstall the guestbook feature on the website, menu references, etc. Not sure, if it would be worth persuing this feature again. What a bummer!
