I am using 2.4.1 version of Guestbook.
I get a terrible amount of spam.
I noticed I had to join and verify a code before leaving any replies or repsonses here at this guestbook/forum.
Is there anyway to upgrade to that type of guestbook?
Is there a cost to do so?

2.4.1 has the captcha option. It should be enabled by default.

I must be slow but I do not know what "captcha option" is and there is nothing that verifies anyone logging on to leave a post on my guestbook is an actual person at this time. I have even disabled every link on my website to access it and I am still getting visitors by the hundreds. So I know it must be spiders jumping to it. And they are weird messages. Things I don't want to sort through - many duplicates.

There must be something I am missing.
Should I talk to my hosting company to try to uninstall it? I have tried to delete it at the the name of the Advanced Guestbook file so it would not run and delete it as well as move it to the wrong location to keep it from running, but it nothing works - everything always defaults back and it still is there. I can't even change the name of the file to keep it from working.

I appreciate your help. Thanks so much.

If changing to Lazarus at this point - I would do that. But I would want to get Advanced Guestbook off my listings.

When you updated to Advanced Guestbook 2.4.1 CAPTCHA should of been turned on by default. Look in admin/config.inc.php for the place to turn it on.

I have found an option that says password required. I have found nothing that says "Captcha". Is this what you are talking about?

it says.. "Guestbook Comment
If you want to password-protect the comment feature, set this option to 'Password required'."

I have checked the box for password required, but the password area that is to be filled in is already typed in with the word "Comment'. Should I leave that word in the box? Or should I remove it? I really appreciate your help.
I am usually not this supid - but am taking some meds that have affected my brain.

As I said the option to enable CAPTCHA or image verification is in the file config.inc.php which you will find in the admin folder.

Unfortunately it only verifies human input and so masses of pasted links to non-existent and/or unwanted sites etc are still dumped in by somebody. I believe you might also have to chop the number of words allowed in the comments too. This to cut down on how much is inserted to your guestbook at a time. Only a partial solution though.

Cheers,
