I have a number of Bulletin Boards (phpBB) and Guestbooks (Advanced Guestbook 2.2 Powered by PHP & MySQL - http://www.proxy2.de) on my websites which I manage using CPanel but I have just upgraded one of my hosting plans and it looks as though the site admin people deleted the databases associated with a couple of the BBs and a couple of Guestbooks.

I had backups of the Bulletin Boards created through the Administration Panel of the BBs. I re-created the BBs by first of all creating new BBs with no content and then I went to the Admin Panel and used Restore to re-create the original? Success!

I also have backups of the databases for the Guestbooks created through Cpanel but re-creating these databases using Cpanel doesn't provide the required result. I am getting the following error message.

"Query Error
MySQL Error : Query Error
Error Number: 1146 Table 'terry_agbook1.book_config' doesn't exist
etc"

Perhaps I am being rather stupid and the answer is simple. Any advice would be appreciated. The simpler the better.

Did you re-create the database? I would say first make sure there's not a problem with it - select check and/or repair the database. Can you get into PhpMyAdmin? Check to see if the tables are there? If there is nothing wrong with the database and the tables are missing, the only way I know would be to create the tables first in PhpMyAdmin, but you would need the guestbook.sql file for this. If you need a copy of this file it can be made available to you. If you still have problems, check back at this forum. Someone else will come along and post a better response to this question later.

I just wanted to say that now would be a very good time to upgrade to version 2.3.1. Have you read the posts about the exploit?

Yes I have done that too.

Yes I can get into phpmyadmin and tables not there. I am too much of a novice to do anything more with this facility at the moment though.

I have the guestbook.sql file but not I am not sure of the next step. I hope someone will come to my rescue.

Many thanks

Hi.
If I understand you correctly, you are still working with version 2.2? Just wanted to remind you of the vulnerability - anyone can get into your admin panel and hack the guestbook. Version 2.3.1 is the better choice.

That said, to create the tables using the sql file, you would:

Get into PhpMyAdmin and select the guestbook database (you should see a message saying it contains no tables)

On the right window pane, at the top menu, select "SQL"

When the SQL window comes up, there should be a box for you to input the SQL filename. Click on "browse" and navigate to the guestbook.sql file. Then click on "ok".

After processing the task, you should get a sucessful result. If successful, the guestbook tables will appear in the left (blue) pane.

If there is a problem, you will get an error message. If you get an error message, please make note of it for future help.

Should you prefer, I would be happy to upgrade you to 2.3.1.
