I have yet to see anything even remotely close to a reasonable installation guide. Even other website tutorials come closer than anything found here, and they make suggestions that are completely different.

Then there are zillions of posts here where they still can not get it working.

And certain "self-appointed experts" here (in case nobody noticed) are extremely vague. And why is that I might ask. They simply point to a link that says nothing, doesn't work, and or relink to other dead soldiers, while purporting to know it all.

Simply put, this program is not ready for prime time....

You mean that nobody offered to hold your hand and walk you through it step by step doing it all for you. Welcome to the real world. Thousands of people seem to have managed to do what you consider an impossible task with no help at all.

Contrary to the drifters in this forum that just go about keeping everything to themselves, and making out like they are brilliant, while every body else is just totally stupid....

I did find a nice tutorial somewhere else, that actually does say some thing half way coherent. It's the first thing I've seen that one can actually understand.

It's at: http://www.nexcess.net/hosting/support/tutorials/ap/2.0.3/

While it is never wise to take on forum, I must say this. I have never seen a bunch of people so unwilling to share what they know. Doing a search on this topic proves my case. I hang out in the Avsim flight sim forum and I can tell you it's not like this.

Yes a few extremely knowledgeable people have gutted their way through this piss poor piece of documented software, but I question how many have given up just like me....

I'm a "self appointed expert" on the advanced guestbook and not the advanced poll. I have looked at the poll script once and it seems simple to me. Selet if you are using daabase or flatfile version. If using database supply the database details, if using flat file make the folders writable. Upload the files. Put the cookie include at the very start of the page where the poll is to appear then the poll code where you want the poll to appear. Not exactly rocket science.

Strange that someone should feel this way, considering people are here volunteering their time to answer questions. There are many of us who do not consider ourselves to be experts. We just read the stickies and the posts, searched for the answers, and are willing to share what we have found.

I will admit this is not the easiet code to figure out, but have you ever tried writing one of these things yourself to do everything this one does. I can assure you no matter how much time it takes to figure out how to set it up to your specs it is not 100th of the time it took to write from scratch.

Be thankful when things are handed to you and grateful for what you will learn while trying to get it working the way you want.

I for one think this is the greatest thing since sliced bread!

Thanks to all of those involved here and don't be discouraged by those looking for a free ride.
