Advice over installation of advanced poll 2.08

Well, hope someone can help me over this matter:

I am trying to install advanced poll 2.08 on a .html page generated in FRONT PAGE. Already did and followed carefully all the steps creating the data base and configurating the poll I want to show and all worked fine to this point, BUT when it comes to place the .php code into the page created an upload it, it shows only text:

poll_process(1); ?>

I've made all he possible combinations ad followed all the tips found around before writing this, but nothing changed. I have placed the php code just before the .html code at the top of the page, changed the .hmtl format of the page since its root to .php, copied and pasted the codes I've found in the demos and so on.

There is a java script working on the page as well.

Don't know what I am doing wrong!! Is there a place where I can find detailed instructions or can someone tell what do before giving up?
