I've been using the textfile version of Advanced Poll. For the latest installation I did, I decided to try the database version, and I used Fantastico to install it.

I noticed that there is no message after installation telling you to remove the install.php file. Isn't leaving this on your server a security risk?

What about the misc directory? Aren't files in there a security risk also if left on the server?

After installation, I removed the misc directory and install directory, and it works fine without them.

I am thinking most people who installed using Fantastico have left these files on their server.

Never having used AP I couldn't say. If the AP installer is anything like the AG installer then there is no risk as you re required to input your database details. I don't know what the misc directory contains.

I don't think it's too much of a risk, but I would most defintely
recommend that you remove any files that aren't necessary to
the operation of the poll. For example phpbb ask's you to
enter in the database info, but it still requires you to remove
the 'install' directory. edit--i can't remember the install procedure
sine it may of change from 2.0.2 to 2.0.3, plus my memory ain't
that good ; ).

As a final note I don't recommend installing ap or agb from
Fantastico, from past experience your less likely to encounter
problems installing it yourself. Also by the end of this week I
will have FINALLY uploaded the poll guides I wrote!

The misc folder has dump_mysql.sql, uninstall.php, get_admin.php, tb_mysql.php, info.php, and more.

I have now installed Advanced Poll, Coppermine, Zen Cart, OS Commerce and WordPress using Fantastico with zero problems. All these programs work well, which makes me think your host is a factor. I have a great host.

It may of been the version of Fantastico I was using since it
almost screwed my MySQL setup.

The misc folder might be wise to remove since it contains
unistall.php. I have no idea whether it requires any info or just
uses the db config alreay in place. It wouldn't be very good if
someone uninstalled adv. poll for you ; ).
