No text showing after editing LANG file

I wanted to change some text in my guestbook. Tried editing the lang file for English using WordPad (opedned file, change text, saved file, upload via ftp).

The problem now is that the Guestbook does not display the language file texts as if they do not exist.
After testing I realised that as soon as I edited (not making any changes - just open & save...!) any lang file in Wordpad, notepad or Dreamweaver, the text of the coresponding language file was no longer appearing if selected in Adv.Guestbook.

It's really strange!!! Please Help!
