I've lost access to my admin area in an older installation. User and password simply don't work. I can't delete spam or moderate the messages posted there.
Where is the password, etc. stored? I figure I can get in through my ftp program, open a file and manually change the password, etc.
What file is it stored on?
Erik

So this bit didn't help?
And 2.4.1 comes with it's own password reset script.

Well, your first link there results in an error 404 message...so that wasn't helpful.
I confess I didn't try the other two links, but I did read through several threads on the topic and tried the suggestions, but I'm just not meeting with success yet.
It's a GREAT guestbook, don't get me wrong. I wish it wasn't so popular with spammers... which is why I'm excited to upgrade to the new version. But now my problem is getting the upgrade to work with the old database that still allows user verification to operate so people can post messages...

Your reset script worked perfectly, thank you. With that out of the way, I'll still need to solve the problem of upgrading successfully, preserving the old database (and getting the upgrade to recognize it without functional defects...)

Hi there, I have been having a problem to login in as Administrator in my Guestbook (AdvancedGuestbook 2.2). It does not want to accept my password. I have read the posts about resetting it but I cannot find the file book-auth as mentioned in the posts. Also, I called the hosting company that host my website and they said the file is an encrpyted file and I would have to call "Apache" to find out how to resolve this. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem for how I can find the book_auth file??? Thanks....Gina

I tried the link you sent me but it still does not work. It asks for the username and password but does not accept the password that I put in there, yet I know it is correct. I hae now changed my password but nothing seems to work as far as sgning in as Adminsitrator to the Guestbook.
Is there anything else I can do. Can I clear the password or reset it some other way?
Thanks again for all your help. Gina

I still can't log on as Administrator to the Advanced Guest Book. It doesn't recognize my password. Anyone have any other ideas? I may have to lose everything I have in there at this point

I tried the script again. This time I put in my password at the reset screen and it does not accept it. The password that is in the config file is some other kind of letters that do not make sense I event ried copying that and putting that on the reset screen but that didn't work either. Any other ideas??

Email me on webmaster[at]carbonize[dot]co[dot]uk. But yes it is the database password that is required for the reset script and this is the strange set of characters you refer to.
