I have done lots of reading and changed several permissions...

But this is my problem.
Installed 2.4.1

Book is running.
In the admin. panel there is templates
and smilies that I am having problems with.

1.Templates
When I click on templates, it shows the admin.php and continues showing multiple entries of just that template.
At the top it says something about webserver permissions.
(is that different that the folder permissions ?)

Currently my permissions set are.
public folder -777
tmp folder -777
template folder - 777
all files in template folder are set to 666
except form.php which is set to 777.

2. Smilies
When in the Admin panel I click on Smilies.
It shows the list of current smilies.
If I click the scan button at bottom...
It continues to SHOW the a1 smilie (the first one)
and just keeps on going and going and going adding this one to the list...
It keeps transferring something, as the connection is constantly downloading and adding that first smile.
It eventually will lock up the browser.

So it never gives me the other smilies in the folder (default)

I feel like there is a permissions problem...
but the above settings seem to be all the setting found here in the forum.

I appreciate your help...

Thank You

I bet your hosts is still using PHP 4.4.1 which had a bug.

yeah....4.4.1

Well...
the templates page doesn't bother me since I change those in textpad.

There was a post telling how to add smilies, and lines of smiles directly in the php code.

But I got the impression that you still had to do the scan from the admin panel of the smilie images or changing the code wouldn't work.

Is that True ?

I guess I could changed the 9 showing with different ones and use the same name ...IF....the scan thing is true.

Thank you

You do have to scan th esmilies directory as AG stores the smiley sizes etc. I believe this bug was fixed in AG 2.4.1

I have 2.4.1 and the php 4.4.1

I will have the host upgrade to php5 and hopefully all will go well and the scan will work.

Thank you, it is much appreciated.
