Great Job Carbonize,

I just tested your guestbook and it seems you forgot to add the Windows Messenger and Yahoo entry to the private tables.
There is also the double smilie (the one with the smile) error.

It seems you guy's didn't know this existed:

This new guestbook update includes:

1 spider bot referral check. guestbook checks spiders against a list of all known bots. If found, they are redirected to the dynamic spam trap, where they get fed thousands of bogus email addresses. If Spam spider shows up at page, Admin gets emailed with user IP address and the bot they were using.

2 email addresses are converted on the fly to raw ASCII.

3 Addentry.php file is now protected with a human verification system, that makes guests place numbers into an input box, stopping robot spam posting. The numbers are generated at random, and is a png image.

4 changed the default gb_action method found in all advanced guestbooks to my own action method. backup for human verification system.

5 ICQ online status.

6 Windows Messenger and Yahoo addon.

7. And lots of bug fixes for version 2.3.1 including the SQL injection problem.

Jam'n

Wheres that from?

1 - This is pointless given that he bots could easily hide behind any useragent string. Why bother wasting your cpu time?

2 - Email address are converted to ascii, on the fly, as they are called from the database.

3 - Yes Mine has image verification as an option.

4 - Not sure what this one is supposed to mean.

5 - Yes mine shows both ICQ and Yahoo status.

6 - Yes I have both Yahoo and MSN messenger entries.

7 - the SQL injection exploit only affected 2.2 and 2.3

I welcome all requests for modifications to the book.

A quick list of what I have done.
Image Verification as an option.
Yahoo and MSN fields also optional.
Third choice in gender.
The homepage field is now optional.
Email addresses can be encrypted or left as normal.
Ip addresses can be resolved or kept just as the IP.
Updated the GET, POST, COOKIE, SERVER and FILE arrays from HTTP array to the newer $_ style.
Changed the wording in some of the admin pages.
Admin logout now return you to guestbook.
Form is now shown below the preview and retains the information (beta).
Failed image verification reshows the form complete with your information.
The option to make a message private can be hidden in admin.
Removed th eoption to allow HTML pending my writing a function to only allow certain HTML tags.

There are something I have yet to do but they are minor changes.

This is the text from the ultimate advanced guestbook that was made somewhere in the first quarter of 2003.
As a result of some users wanted more from it and where looking for some extra protection.

This guestbook was made with the help of Carbonize , Freddy, Jared, Spor and Jam'n.

1. Works great it has already blocked allot of bots

2. Email address are converted to ascii code now, but there are plain readable. As a test open the source code of a guestbook and you can read the emailadres.
With this option you only get digits.

4. There is a script out that uses the guestbook internal command for posting. You could sign hundreds of guestbook in a couple of minutes. So we changed the way the guestbook writes the entries to the database.

I see that your version is will be more advanced as the old version we all made together.

Nice job.

Jam'n

There was another reason for my making the updated version. I want people to visit my site for help instead of this one. Atleast that way we will have control over the forum. And I wouldn't say no to more visitors anyway lol

I don't think this sites guestbook and forum are good advertisements. The guestbook is full of spam as is the forums membership.

Hi Auron,

Nice to see you again.
Still helping people with the poll I see.
I like your version 6.
I want a new website to just don't know which way to go

@Carbonize: I have send you the version we made.
I know how you feel, that's why we started with the guestbook I send you.
We even contacted the author ones to talk about the changes we made, but he didn't seem interested anymore.
Auron was one of those members to and did one hell of a job helping us.

Thanks Auron for the all the help and support back then.

Take care,

Jam'n

OK in my guestbook I feel like changing the title images. Anybody good at graphics? lol. I will also need to change the version info and link at the bottom to reflect the changes whilst still keeping a link to proxy2.

Hi Carbonize,

Check your beta guestbook for some comments if not already done so.

One or two bugs but overall it's looking good.

Saw that post. Actually clicking the msn button brings up there profile which really doesnt do much good if you want to talk to that person. If they dont have a profile on there.

I used MSN profiles as I didn't want to rely on the person having MSN installed. Same with the Yahoo link. The ICQ problem is from their end and I don't fully understand it. Will change the link to take you to their ICQ communications center. There are some major bugs with the beta version which are going to pee me off. The first is that images are not uploading and I cannot see why given that I never touched the image code the other is the slashes which i'll work on.

Image uploads are working now. I had put $_SERVER instead of $_FILES in addentry.php/ Silly mistake Now I just need write some code to make it use the uploaded picture upon preview or verification error.

This is looking good. Great idea to have the preview on the same page so you do not have to go back to edit the info.

If you preview the post before submitting, it doesn't add the picture. The picture shows on the preview but doesn't get placed in the book... If you submit without a preview, the picture does go in the book... okay I see you are already aware of this.

Is it possible to get the description to hover over the smileys like it does on this forum?

That is a much better guestbook logo pic, and getting rid of the pic that says "sign..." in red was a great idea. It didn't look right with "sign..." twice.

Attempting to leave a comment produced the following error:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_BOOLEAN_AND in /mnt/htdocs/users/carboniz/carboniz/carbonize.co.uk/html/guestbookbeta/lib/comment.class.php on line 68

Can you make the comments similar to what you have in your regular guestbook. Rather than just show the name of the commentor, it would be better if it said "Comment From...". Also, the box you have around your comments looks nice. I would like to have that.

You should go ahead and move this discussion to your site.
