I'm having a problem with fake referrals (casino, drugs, porn...the usual) showing up in my site statistics, filling up the logs and wasting a lot of my time. My hosting service has been trying to find out where they are coming from, and are convinced that they are coming in through my "Advance Guestbook". Does anyone know anything about this and/or how to stop these fake referrals from showing up?
Thank you

I was getting a load of these as well. Technically not a lot you can do unless you start using .htaccess to block by referer. I found it funny because I don't list referers anywhere on my site.

Thanks
Are these referrers really getting in by way of the guestbook, or they will still have access even if I uninstall the guestbook? I don't understand the connection.

A referer is just a referer. Even if the page they requested didn't exist they would show up in the log.

True, but usually the referrer has a link on their referring page to my site that does the referring (in that particular section of my statistics). Here not only are there are no links on the referring page, there are no links on the whole site. I've checked through the source pages for some sort of hidden link, but none there. Their "referrals are mostly spam sites that are messing up all my statistics. The big question still stands - is this phenomena a direct result of having the guestbook or is there no connection?

It's no connection except they possibly have a list of sites with Advanced Guestbook from spamming the guestbooks. You cannot disable comments in Advanced Guestbok but you can password protect them. CAPTCHA can be turned off in config.inc.php but why would you want to?

i don't want to disable it, i want it on the comment feature or make it so the comment feature, ya know, you make a guestbook entry, then someone comes along and wants to comment on it, but instead of a comment, 60 or so entries about some damn pill
also if you know this, a query in phpmyadmin that qill delete all the comments at once?
thanks folks.

You can use phpMyAdmin to mass delete entries so long as they all have something in common. The last guestbook I cleaned up all the comments had href in them so I just told phpMyAdmin to delete all comments containing href.

Found this in Wikipedia. Answered some of my questions, but not all. Thought someone may be interested.
