Copy your database information from the 2.3.1 config.inc.php file to the 2.4.1 file. Upload everything. Run the update file found in the misc folder.
LastI checked the install file requires you to input your database information before it wil run. I am sure the update file and password reset file also have a security feature.
You also needed to run the database updater found in the misc folder.

You need to run the uopdate file that is in the misc folder.
It means the database username and password you supplied are incorrect.
Update to version 2.4.1 as this should fix it.
No that was patched in version 2.3.2.
lol at the fading. I actually had a program written for me to do that a few years ago.
You can use the same database but for one of them you must open up the config.inc.php file and change every occurance of book_ to something like poems_
I've not played with the version 2.4 captcha much so couldn't say. There shouldn't be anyway around it as far as I am aware unless you have a second copy of the guestbook running on the same server.
I know you said you would send me your FTP details but I never received them.
The message is quite clear. It is saying the login information provided is incorrect. Check your username and password.
Just edit templates/body.php and put a link in.
