phpMyAdmin is supplied with cPanel. If you click the link marked databases you will see a link for phpMyAdmin at the bottom of the page that opens.
Do you have phpMyAdmin or cPanel on your server?

W3C are the people who say what is valid and what is not. The others are being far to restrictive. Do a search on the W3C site in regards to the BR tag and you will see what is valid.
Technically <br /> is valid for both HTML and XHTML. What is WDG? W3C I know as they are the ones who decide what is HTML, CSS etc.

Go through all the templates then look in gb.class.php and add.class.php for the gender images.

Just off the top of my head you could just use

$querystring = (isset($_SERVER['QUERY_STRING'])) ? '?' . $_SERVER['QUERY_STRING'] : '';
$this->form_forward = $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'] . $querystring;

of course for the sake of those poor saps still using a prehistoric version of PHP we should use $HTTP_SERVER_VARS and not $_SERVER
