It's only the vote (people can vote again)
I found that the cookies were set to expire (and did expire) in 96 hours. This is the default set in /db/poll_cookie.php. This value has to be changed, for example change this:
$cookie_expire = 96; // hours
to this;
$cookie_expire = 6000; // hours
to make the cookie expire only after 250 days.
If I'm wrong will someone please correct?
I hope that this is doing the trick.
Thanks
- Lars N.

I've tried it in both Firefox and IE 6. They both normally accept cookies, but aren't in this case.
The cookie timeout is still set to the default 96 hours.

What? Yes, I'm using poll_cookie.php. That's the script to which I added an ECHO command to be sure it was being loaded. And yes, I have the script for including the poll... I certainly wouldn't expect cookies to prevent multiple votes if I didn't have a poll to vote in...

It might help if I include the link to my poll, huh? http://www.starwarschicks.com/redesign/newindex.shtml

I would prefer to use cookies rather than IP logging, because in this day and age, many people share one IP address for their entire household - or worse yet, AOL shares a couple of IPs across the entire nation.
But for some reason, I am not producing any cookies, and voting is not being restricted. Again, I'm using SHTML server side includes, text-based poll, I do have the cookie include at the very top of my code - it is executing, because I added an ECHO command to the script to see if the code was being executed - and I am not receiving any errors. Aside from the ECHO command, I didn't alter the cookie script.
I've scoured the forum, but haven't found anyone else with this problem, so I can't figure out what's wrong.
I did try IP logging, and that works fine. I'd just prefer to use cookies, if I can get them to work.

hello.
How come after some time, the current poll get's resetted.
Is it the cookies that expire, or how come it is so?

Nevermind! I just figured it out. I knew there was an easy solution...
I just needed to add "../poll/" before "$this->form_forward" and "$this->form_forward?action=results&poll_ident=$poll_id" in the template.

Thanks, Guest.
The first problem is completely unrelated. That was linking to an old set of polls used long ago and has nothing to do with the new Advanced Poll. Many of the links in the menubar are wrong - I'm concerning myself with the design first, poll second, and will pull the entire site together later.
The second point is correct. I am using an SHTML include, which is including the file http://www.starwarschicks.com/poll/poll_current.php
I guess I need to be a little more specific about my problem. Sorry!
When you load the above file directly, the poll functions properly. But when it is included, the "View Results" link, for example directs you to http://www.starwarschicks.com/redesign/poll_current.php?action=results&poll_ident=4
rather than http://www.starwarschicks.com/poll/poll_current.php?action=results&poll_ident=4
So specifically, my question is: What part of the program script do I have to change in order to get my URL to use the "poll" directory, rather than the "redesign" directory (which is the current directory)? I've not been able to find it. Please don't tell me "Just don't use SHTML includes". That's the easy answer, and I'm sure someone here is intelligent enough to figure out a better answer.
Thanks!

What's this? - taken from your source code:
The above is pointing to a directory named "polls" which doesn't exist.
You also have a php include for the poll:
Suggest you do a search of your newindex.shtml file and make sure you change all instances of directory "polls" to "poll"

My first thought was, "You're kidding - am I really that stupid?" But I looked, and I do have my General Settings set right. I just added the 's' in the above post by mistake.
Thanks, but unfortunately it wasn't the correct answer - thought I kind of wish it was.
Any other ideas?

hallo,
hello,
a few years ago I started with a text-version of advanced poll. now I installed the mysql-version on my new webspace. is there any possibility to convert older polls and comments from the text-version to the new database? thx.

Hi Guy's I have installed the poll and finally got it going. I read on the forum that pages have to be renamed with the extension php. I use dynamic templates, pages ending in htm, so do I have to rename the DWT's only that will handle any poll or all pages that are likely to have poll installed?
One other thing too! When I paste the top code snippet into the top of a DWT the code is stripped out again. Do I have to place the code within Begin Editable..something...End Editable to stop this happening.
