I know this is old hat for most of you but I see a lot of posts of people struggling with this program like myself. So here's what else I've stumbled through.
After you do get it installed here is the link to administer it.
http://www.yourdomainname.com/Poll/admin/index.php
"Poll" if you did rename the "DB" folder.
Remember, all letters are case sensitive.
That is where it will ask for your name and password from the last step.
Now I am going to struggle to get a poll made and running....

When entering guestbook following error appears at the top:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected '&', expecting T_STRING or T_VARIABLE or '{' or '$' in /home/turtlesj/public_html/dirtydolls/guestbook/lib/mysql.class.php on line 20

I am using my name to make it simple.
All Letters are case sensitive !!!
===========================================
You must first Create Database in MySQL
Go to http://www.my domainname.com/cpanel
Find area to add MySQL Database.
-------------------------------------------
1. Hit "Add Db" -- Call it "myPoll". MySQL will name it "thune_mypoll" for the database name.
2. Hit "Add User" (below) The name entered was "bobt", password "gray"
A. It will create a user.... "thune_bobt" (that has a password "gray")
3. Now put "thune_bobt" and "thune_mypoll" in dropdown boxes (above).
A. Hit Add user to Db
B. This Will tie the user "thune_bobt" to the new database "thune_mypoll".
===================================================================
3. Download Pollphp.zip, and unzip
4. Use the "DB" folder only. (throw the other one away).
a. Rename the "DB" folder to "Poll" (Copy it, if it will not rename).
b. Now go to the "Include" folder in folder "Poll".
c. Open up "'config.inc.php" in Windows "Word" word processor
1. Change $POLLDB["dbName"] = "thune_mypoll";
2. Leave Alone $POLLDB["host"] = "localhost"; [do not change]
3. Change $POLLDB["user"] = "thune_bobt";
4. Change $POLLDB["pass"] = "gray";
D. Save Document.
5. Upload whole "poll" folder to public.html in your FTP account.
6. Tree should be: \public.html\poll.
5. Now access the program in your browser with 'http://www.mydomainname.com/poll/install.php'
6. When it fires up, follow instructions.
===================================================================
If you get an error, delete database and name and start over.
Be sure you get the letters typed in perfectly, and the letter case correct.
Worked for me, after doing one complete delete as just described.

Looks awesome guys. Ive been looking for a good poll script for days, finally I think I found it. Just one question tho. How do I stop people from voting again?
Is it the "Checking Ip Tables Lockout for ___ " ?
Thanks in advanced.

Contrary to the drifters in this forum that just go about keeping everything to themselves, and making out like they are brilliant, while every body else is just totally stupid....
I did find a nice tutorial somewhere else, that actually does say some thing half way coherent. It's the first thing I've seen that one can actually understand.
It's at: http://www.nexcess.net/hosting/support/tutorials/ap/2.0.3/
While it is never wise to take on forum, I must say this. I have never seen a bunch of people so unwilling to share what they know. Doing a search on this topic proves my case. I hang out in the Avsim flight sim forum and I can tell you it's not like this.
Yes a few extremely knowledgeable people have gutted their way through this piss poor piece of documented software, but I question how many have given up just like me....

Your post is exactly what I'm talking about...

I have yet to see anything even remotely close to a reasonable installation guide. Even other website tutorials come closer than anything found here, and they make suggestions that are completely different.
Then there are zillions of posts here where they still can not get it working.
And certain "self-appointed experts" here (in case nobody noticed) are extremely vague. And why is that I might ask. They simply point to a link that says nothing, doesn't work, and or relink to other dead soldiers, while purporting to know it all.
Simply put, this program is not ready for prime time....

I may have been wrong about the index.php file, since I am not using the database version. I think you should try to contact Auron and see if he is available to help you. If you click on his username on any of his posts you might be able to send him an email.

Hallo zusammen
Martin

Yes, it's indeed shtml.
But the original code is on the following page: http://www.perfusion.be/b2/index.php
Even on the original page (above) I can't vote or see the results...
