www.web-mania.com does cheap webhosting. £20 a year gets you 500megs of space, 6Gb bandwidth, PHP, Perl, MySQL. Pretty much everything you need. Could use Advanced guestbook then.

Oh and visit http://gtmcknight.com/buttons/validated.php for some nicer valid code buttons.
Yes you need to edit the first three variables.

I'm guessing you are meant to install the script in a different place from the rest of the files. Simply put in the addresses you would use to visit the script and then the address for the guestbook files.
An FTP client is best way to manage a websites files.
yes but it only allows specific HTML tags. Or maybe not. Now I think about it I'm not sure. Will look into it.
Two options.

1 - Use my image verification mod - www.carbonize.co.uk/verification.zip

2 - Alter the name of the Name input.
Ok now added a third gender option incase they don't want to say. Also made the homepage an optional field via the Admins General Settings. Reworded some of the password changing page of the admin section as it was badly worded. Currently working on giving you the option to turn off private messaging via the admin. Oh and updated the variable codes used to get the guestbooks submitted data from the old HTTP VARS style to the new $_GET, $_POST style.
There is. www.carbonize.co.uk/verification.zip is the mod for adding image verification to the entry form. If that doesn't work properly for you (some guestbooks installed on things lke PHPNuke mess up) there is an alternate way of stopping automated postings I am working on. It's simply changing the name of the Name input. The automated posters just send the info straight to your guestboo but if you change the name of the Name input the script will treat the automated post as a post with no name and not add it. Should only require the editing of two files.
I assume you mean you updated from2.2 to 2.3.1. Anyway if you have phpMyAdmin installed you can simply goto the table called book_auth and edit the part called last_visit. It needs changing from type timestamp to type int.
What did you use to edit the file is what I am asking? may be worth downloading the file, editing it on your PC then reuploading it.
Well everythngs fine so far.the problem must only happen when you've logged in.
Yup my mate and I both looked at it and cannot see why. I'll give it more thought later on.
header.php would be my guess.
OK work has begun. I have added the Yahoo and MSN fields and email address encryption. Both of which can be turned on and off in the admin section. I have also added the option to have the guestbook just store the posters email address or resolve the address and store that information.
Which guestbook and do you have a link to it ?
How did you edit the file? SOunds like the permissions got altered when you editted it.
Never seen verion 1.5 but I'm guessing it has a config file with it. You set the base url in there. I believe what it is saying though is that you have not changed the permissions on the folder to allow the script to write to it.
