1 - Try changing the charset which is set in the language file such as lang/german.php

2 - You might need to change the language used in database but probably not

Advanced Poll will not have altered your htaccess file. Basically it looks like your hosts have disabled magic quotes and register globals via your htaccess file as opposed to directly from php.ini. God knows why they have done it that way though.

Download a new copy of the guestbook and copy your database information from your current config.inc.php file to the new one and then replace it.

Did you try logging in to the admin, going to style and changing the width setting that is in here?

open your config.inc.php file and set the base url to http://jcroot.net/guestbook

Just put the two addresses in there seperated by a comma like

address@one.com,other@address.com

Does the language appear in the drop down list?

As I said you could simply edit templates/form.php to change the smileys that get displayed or add more.
