Carbonize's way is the easy way, because once you do it, it's done for all guestbook pages:

Include your header, by Carbonize:

In that thread JTD mentions some samples you can download. Perhaps they are still there and you should try that.

The way the page at http://www.afrovoices.com was done is:

Make a backup copy of guestbook/index.php

Take a copy of the existing home page (or other site page) and save it as guestbook/index2.php

Leave the header, menu and footer but delete the page's other contents

Copy all the code from the original guestbook/index.php file and paste it in the guestbook/index2.php file where the deleted contents were.

View guestbook/index2.php in your browser to see if it works. If it does, rename it to guestbook/index.php.

You have to repeat the same procedure for every guestbook page you want the header, menu, footer to appear on.

That's the hard way, but perhaps less technical sounding.

That's great news. I was looking at your page, and you have such a great logo... maybe you will get adventurous and incorporate it into your guestbook? It would look great.

If the filesize says zero, it sounds like they weren't uploaded correctly. Some files have to be uploaded in ASCII, some in binary. Most FTP programs have an automatic feature to switch between the two when necessary. Perhaps there is a problem with your FTP program or your host if you are sure you uploaded and changed the permissions correctly.

There is a post on this forum that explains permissions and changing them from CPanel, although you sound like you already knew what you were doing. If you want to read it, you can find it listed on the Topic "Advanced Guestbook Fixes and Mods".

This is looking good. Great idea to have the preview on the same page so you do not have to go back to edit the info.

If you preview the post before submitting, it doesn't add the picture. The picture shows on the preview but doesn't get placed in the book... If you submit without a preview, the picture does go in the book... okay I see you are already aware of this.

Is it possible to get the description to hover over the smileys like it does on this forum?

That is a much better guestbook logo pic, and getting rid of the pic that says "sign..." in red was a great idea. It didn't look right with "sign..." twice.

Attempting to leave a comment produced the following error:

Can you make the comments similar to what you have in your regular guestbook. Rather than just show the name of the commentor, it would be better if it said "Comment From...". Also, the box you have around your comments looks nice. I would like to have that.

Sorry... I just noticed that the posts are actually going into the guestbook, so the files are there.

Look in your admin/config.inc.php file and see what the base url is set to. If you did not set it, do that and see if it helps.

That's about 3/4 of the way down, or if you have a line counter, around line 59:

Carbonize, there are pages out there that do it that way. It's just that you would have to perform the integration for every page you wanted like that, whereas your method with the header and footer makes it appear on all pages. See: www.afrovoices.com/guestbook/index.php. The header appears on the guestbook index page but not the addentry page because the Admin wanted it that way.

Some of my own pages were done that way before you showed up and taught us the easy way.

The error message is gone now but the page still won't load. Please check to make sure all files were uploaded to the server. Maybe something is missing.

I don't allow image posting or comments.

The Image Verification Script has nothing to do with your allowing or disallowing image uploads. For lack of a better explanation, it is an "image" of a code that must be input so robots can't post. Look at Carbonize's thread to get the correct explanation. At any rate, you need to install this mod.
