The htaccess stuff is irrelevant if you are already using a .php file. So the booth stuff is before the doctype?

They could of come in through a different script or may even be on the same server. Either way you should update to 1.8.

Yes it's either that or your host has just upgraded to PHP 5/MySQL 5 and disabled MySQL in favour of MySQLi

2.4.3 has CAPTCHA for both entries and comments. You must have it disabled. It is enabled in the config.inc.php file.

Sounds like your host has changed something in the MySQL server. You need to speak to them about it.

Version 1.7.4? Are we talking about Lazarus? If so please use the Lazarus Site. Anyway Lazarus 1.7.4 has no exploits I am aware of. When you say they added links can you explain where etc and provide a link to your site.

Either put the image in the guestbook folder or put the full url of the image in there.
