To update from 2.3.1 to 2.3.3 you just need to download 2.3.3 then replace ALL your 2.3.1 files with the 2.3.3 files EXCEPT the config.inc.php file in the admin folder. All the entries and settings are stored in the database and will not be touched.
------------------------------------------------

You need to edit the config.inc.php file found in the admin folder.
Use FTP or cPanel to upload the new files.
You do not need to run the install file again.

Not heavy handed. Thats the only way you can remove the option in Advanced Guestbook.

You don't. They are in your database they are not a file. they will not disappear.
You need to do the same thing. Update the templates.
Download 2.3.3. Extract 2.3.3. Replace your current guestbook files with 2.3.3 files EXCEPT the config.inc.php file in the admin folder as this has your database settings in it.

I meant an index.php file in the classifieds folder. The file above is the index page of the Xoops CMS.
The folder may still be there but is the index.php files still there?
Are we talking advanced guestbook 1.5 or 2.3.x?
It may be worth speaking to your hosts to see if they did any work or moved your site to a new server as sometimes files get corrupted during transfers.

Apparently there is a problem with the latest cPanel specially where the guestbook script is concerned. Download it from here and update manually.

I have two hosts. One is £20 per year and absolute crap. My actual hosts cost me £31 for the year and is great. First host is UK based and real host is US. All praise the mighty weak dollar
